Some emergency power plant users,
prefer to have a separate ventilated room or shelter, to install their gen-set.
This is fine, as long as the guide lines of NAFPA are followed. For these
applications, we offer our "Open" gen-set which includes mounting
rails, vibration isolators, but no means of gen-set protection against noise,
the elements , or engine fumes. Also, the muffler, and 2-1/2 foot flexible
exhaust hose, is furnished loose, for installer to connect into a complete
exhaust system. A cooling system is also required for these
"open" sets.
Most installers and user's prefer
our "Standard Weather and Sound Protected Housing". The gen-set,
equipped with this housing, can set outside in most severe weather conditions
without causing harm to the engine or generator. The muffler is
pre-installed and the cooling ventilation is pre-engineered, so that installer
need only to secure a sound location, connect fuel, wire the gen-set and it's
ready to use. Let's take a closer look at this standard housing:

"STANDARD"
HOUSING ENCLOSURE:
- All housings are
made of heavy duty steel, plated with "galvaneel" to
prohibit rust.
- Secondary cleaning
with (3) individual washes and a primer coat application.
- Primary baked-on
powder coat finish, using UL- certified paint yielding high
ultra-violet protection, a special salt spray protection, and gloss retention protection.
- A 3/4", open
cell foam noise absorber is installed on all interior metal parts of
housing, reducing the bounce around, reverberant, and
direct noise.
- Special 2" x
6" damping pad strips are placed in various metal parts,
throughout the housing. This takes the "ring" out of
the metal, for a softer sound.
"SUPER-SILENT"
HOUSING ENCLOSURE:
-
The "Super-Silent" treatment consists of using items 1 thru 5 (above)
plus a
full 1" foam absorber, but
"sandwiched" in the middle of this 1" foam, is a
"transmission loss barrier". In order to achieve maximum
sound control results, both materials must be used in combination as one
layer.
|
|
|
In addition to
the foam thickness change, the housing has special air ducts on each end of housing with
air turning 90° angles, several times, to reduce noise that would
otherwise travel in a
straight line, outside of housing.

New, lower sound level requirements are
being introduced in various parts of the country, and it appears, this
trend will grow. In the near future, it may be a mandatory city and state
ordinance of as low as 60-65 dB(A) at 21 feet from gen-set. We
are ready for this future demand with our "Super-Silent"
housing.
