SENTRY-PRO EXHAUST SILENCERS

Cowl "Industrial" muffler for sizes 8 thru 25 kw

The standard "Industrial" grade silencers are installed on "OPEN" and "STANDARD" housed gen-sets and provide a moderate degree of exhaust noise silencing.  SENTRY-PRO with SUPER-SILENT housing uses only the better "Residential" grade mufflers for enhanced, low noise protection.  However, there seems to be a growing demand for the ultimate silencers, the "Critical" grade and the "Hospital" grade muffler, that produces an extremely high degree of silencing where the ambient noise level is very low.

"Industrial", "Residential" and "Critical" grade mufflers have the same basic construction features:

  • Aluminized steel for rust-proofing
  • All welded construction
  • High temperature rating of 1200°F
  • Water drains
  • Air leak tested

Following is a basic explanation of these (4) different muffler grades:

The total exhaust system when at all possible, shall be the product of a single manufacture.  This will insure the best form, fit and function during exhaust system installation and operation.  The total exhaust system includes the silencer, silencer mounting supports, flex connector and accessories.   Where applicable, the exhaust system components shall be supplied with 1200º satin black finish.  When a specified dB(A) level is required for a certain distance, please consult silencer manufacturer for correct silencer model and design.

Silencer Specifications:

1.  Industrial Grade - Chamber Type:  The silencer is to be a Phillips & Temro "JI" Series silencer with an average attenuation of 12-18 dB(A) reduction in engine exhaust noise.  Silencer shall be all welded steel construction of aluminized steel up to and including 26" body diameter.  Silencers 28" body diameter and larger to be constructed of carbon steel.  Silencer must be suitable for mounting in any position with adequate drain.  The silencer and exhaust piping shall be sized per manufacture's specifications, but in no case exceed the manufactures maximum back pressure limit.

2.  Residential Grade - Chamber Type:  The silencer is to be a Phillips & Temro "JR" Series silencer with an average attenuation of 18-25 dB(A) reduction in engine exhaust noise.  Silencer shall be all welded steel construction of aluminized steel up to and including 26" body diameter.  Silencers 28" body diameter and larger to be constructed of carbon steel.  The silencer "shell" (wall) to be a complete double wrap.  Silencer must be suitable for mounting in any position with adequate drain.  The silencer and exhaust piping shall be sized per manufacture's specifications, but in no case exceed the manufactures maximum back pressure limit.

3.  Critical Grade - Multi-Chamber Type:  The silencer is to be a Phillips & Temro "JC" Series silencer with an average attenuation of 25-34 dB(A) reduction in engine exhaust noise.

4.  Hospital Grade - Multi-Chamber/Absorptive Type:  The silencer is to be a Phillips & Temro "JH" Series silencer with an average attenuation of 35-40 dB(A) reduction in engine exhaust noise.  Silencer shall be all welded steel construction of aluminized steel up to and including 26" body diameter.  Silencers 28" body diameter and larger to be constructed of carbon steel.  The silencer "shell" (wall) to be a complete double wrap.  The silencer shall effectively attenuate the full range of frequencies utilizing a multi-chamber/absorptive design.  Silencer must be suitable for mounting in any position with adequate drain.  The silencer and exhaust piping shall be sized per manufacture's specifications, but in no case exceed the manufactures maximum back pressure limit.
