There
are (3) battery chargers available, they are UL-1012 certified and they all have
a specific function for specific standby generators. Notice that the S-16A is now included on the SPV & SPH series gen-sets. Following is
information on each one, along with our use recommendation, to help in your
decision and selection:

#S-16A
|
PART
NO. S-16A AUTO 12 VDC BATTERY CHARGER, INCLUDED ON 8 - 16
KW, 2-POLE, 3600 RPM SETS
OPERATION:
This is a 3-stage, 2 amp, 12 vdc automatic charger with 120 vac input.
First stage: "Bulk" charging with full current for deeply discharged
battery. Second Stage : "Absorption", holding battery voltage at
maximum 14.5 vdc. Third Stage: "Float". small maintenance charge
rate for a continuous battery charge of 13.5 vdc. This
solid state electronic charger is recommended for the small, 3600 RPM, 2 pole
standby sets, 8, 10, 12, and 16 kw. It is mounted inside weather housing,
pre-wired to battery cables. A 120 vac, utility electric power circuit must be
brought to the gen-set by the installer to energize charger, while on standby
duty. A 2-year limited warranty begins when end user receives this
charger. |

#S-16B
|
PART NO. S-16B
AUTO 12 VDC BATTERY CHARGER, RECOMMENDED FOR 15 - 130 KW,
4-POLE, 1800 RPM SETS
OPERATION:
This is a 2-stage, 3.5 amp, 12 vdc automatic charger with 120 vac input.
First Stage: "Autoboost" charging with full current for a deeply
discharged battery. Second Stage: "Float" allows small
maintenance charge rate for continuous battery charge of 13.5 vdc. This
charger can be used on maintenance free lead acid, conventional (wet) lead acid,
and nickel-cadmium batteries, and is equipped with an ammeter for charge rate
monitoring. This all
aluminum housed charger is recommended for the larger, 1800 RPM , 4 pole standby gen-sets,
18
thru 130 kw. It should be wall hung inside generator set weather housing
with a 120 vac utility power to energize charger while on standby
position. A 2 year limited warranty begins when end user receives this
charger. |
|

#S-16C
|
PART NO. S-16C
AUTO 12 VDC BATTERY CHARGER, RECOMMENDED FOR 15 - 130 KW, WHEN
NFPA 110 CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED
OPERATION:
This is a 2-stage, 10 amp, 12 vdc automatic charger with 120 vac input.
First Stage: "Autoboost" charging with full current for a deeply
discharged battery. Second Stage: "Float" allows small
maintenance charge rate for continuous battery charge of 13.5 vdc.
Features include AC line compensation, precision DC voltage regulation, current
limiting, automatic 2-rate charging, voltmeter, ammeter, temperature
compensation, (1) AC fuse, (1) DC fuse, and an all aluminum housing. Alarm
system consists of 5 LED lights and 2 form C relays for "AC on" LED,
AC failed LED, charger fail LED, low battery voltage LED, high battery voltage
LED. Form C contacts are for charging fail and low battery. This
charger is for maintenance free lead acid, conventional (wet) lead acid, and
nickel-cadmium batteries and is recommended for standby sets, 15 thru 130 kw
when the ultimate charger is required, or when an NFPA-110 certification is
required. This charger should be wall hung inside generator set weather
housing with a 120 vac utility power to energize charger while on standby
position. A 2 year limited warranty begins when end user receives this charger. |
WHY
IS "SENS" THE BEST BATTERY CHARGER TO WORK WITH SENTRY-PRO STANDBY
GEN-SETS?
€ What's Most Important?
The battery. While the battery and charger work together to ensure uninterrupted power, the battery is in charge. If the battery fails, you're out of business.
€ What Happens If Your Battery Goes Bust?
An undercharged battery won't deliver the performance you paid for, costing you time, money and customer goodwill. Undercharged lead-acid batteries sulfate, reducing the battery's capacity.
. An overcharged battery is constantly thirsty Adding extra water is time-consuming and costly. Failure to quench your battery's thirst, however, causes irreversible damage.
Unattended batteries tend to gas and need extra maintenance (water replenishment). Even worse, their appetite changes with temperature.
€ Charge Accounts
We think you'll get a charge out of SENS' battery charger features. And, you might be shocked when you see the difference between a SENS charger and other products.
€ What's the Charger for?
The charger is the battery's servant. It delivers current to keep the battery charged so it's always ready to go to work. being the battery's servant is no simple task.
SENS' chargers serve the battery in three ways:
1. Maintain the battery so it's 100 percent ready to perform its job
2. Recharge the battery quickly after a discharge without overcharging the battery
3. Operate reliably year round €
Time for a Switch?
On/Off Switch - A switch isn't
necessary on a precision charger. In fact, a switch can cause accidental shutdowns. A switch on a
gen-set
charger is like having an on/off switch on your refrigerator--why would you want to turn it off?
€ Is Battery Maintenance Overrated?
Single-Rate Charging - The output voltage setting must compromise between fast charging and low water
consumption. Like most compromises, however, neither goal is achieved.
Two-Rate Charging - Two different
output voltage settings are usedone for "float" and one for "boost". This provides the fastest charging in
boost mode and lowest water consumption in float mode. No compromise is made. The
problem is determining when to boost charge the battery.
€ Do You Need a Boost?
Manual Float/Boost Switch - Most users don't have the means or time to
measure if the battery is fully charged. But if you don't, you might leave the
charger in boost too long and overcharge the . battery. Or, you might not leave boost on long enough and undercharge it.
Timed Boost Switch - This is a little
better than the manual switch, but not much. Most users aren't sure how long to set the time, and overcharge
the battery or underutilize the boost function.
Automatic Boost -
SENS' autoboost
determines when a battery needs fast charging--and when it doesn't. After a discharge, the charger operates in boost just long enough to fully charge the battery before shifting to float mode.
Since the charger monitors the battery 100 percent of the time, the optimum charge is provided without adjustments. Autoboost equipped chargers outperform chargers with
higher ampere ratings. See the Recharge Comparison Graph.
€ Are You Compensating Your Batteries?
Constant Voltage Charging
- Batteries need precisely regulated voltage to ensure accurate charging. The battery' s need, however, is a moving target. As temperature increases, charging voltage must decrease or gassing will occur. Conversely, charging voltage must increase at cold temperatures, or the battery
won't get any charge.
Precision Temperature
Compensated Charging - SENS' temperature-compensated chargers track the moving temperature target and adjust output voltages to meet the battery's needs. No set-ups or adjustments are needed.
€ Why Are We So Positive Our Equipment Performs?
ISO 9000
Manufacturing System - As an ISO 9000 company, SENS' conforms to worldwide quality standards. Our quality system helps
us meet our goal of zero customer downtime.
